Traffic Movement in Shillong May Slow During Vice President’s Visit on Sept 7-8

Shillong, September 6: Vehicular traffic along several key routes in Shillong and adjoining areas may be temporarily slowed during the visit of the Vice President of India on September 7 and 8, 2026, the East Khasi Hills Police have informed.

According to a press release issued by the Office of the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, the temporary slowdown will be necessary to ensure the smooth and safe movement of the VVIP convoy.

The affected route includes Umiam – Mawlai Mawiong – Golf Links – CRPF Junction – Polo – 4th Furlong – IGP – Kachari – Police Bazaar.

The police have advised members of the public to plan their journeys in advance, allow additional travel time and cooperate with traffic personnel during the movement of the convoy.

Emergency service vehicles, including ambulances, fire services and other emergency responders, will be given priority passage during such movements.

The police have also expressed regret for any inconvenience caused to commuters during the Vice President’s visit.
