Tura Resident Swindled in Online Laptop Deal, Receives Ring and Cryptic Note Instead

Tura, June 4 : A resident of Tura has reportedly fallen victim to an online fraud scheme, receiving a parcel containing a finger ring and a cryptic letter instead of a second-hand laptop he ordered and paid for through OLX.

According to a complaint lodged by the male resident, he placed an order for a second-hand laptop valued at ₹30,000 on April 26, 2025. The advertisement for the laptop was posted on OLX by a Facebook user identified as ‘Dan Bumbum’. The complainant made an advance payment for the purchase.

However, on May 8, 2025, the complainant received a package that was supposed to contain the laptop. To his dismay, the parcel, wrapped in newspaper, contained only a finger ring and a letter with an email address and a password.

The incident has prompted a complaint to the Police, who are now investigating the online fraud. This case serves as a cautionary tale for individuals engaging in online transactions, highlighting the importance of verifying sellers and exercising extreme caution when making advance payments for goods purchased through online platforms.
