Two Men Sentenced to 20 Years’ Rigorous Imprisonment in Separate POCSO Cases in Mairang

Mairang, August 18 : The Special Judge (POCSO), West Khasi Hills, Nongstoin, has convicted and sentenced two men to 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment in two separate cases investigated by Mairang Police Station, Eastern West Khasi Hills.

In the first case, Rickynelson Marwein was convicted in connection with Mairang Police Station Case No. 46(09)2023, registered under Sections 3(a)/4 of the POCSO Act and Section 363 of the IPC.

According to Eastern West Khasi Hills Police, Marwein was arrested during the investigation and subsequently forwarded to judicial custody. The case was investigated and charge-sheeted by WPSI Blismoda Nongrang, Investigation Officer of Mairang Police Station.

Following completion of the trial, the Special POCSO Court found Marwein guilty and sentenced him to 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment with a fine of ₹50,000, along with two years’ simple imprisonment and a fine of ₹10,000. The sentences will run concurrently.

In a separate case, Wilphrest Mukhim was convicted in connection with Mairang Police Station Case No. 13(03)2021, registered under Sections 5(j)(ii)/(1)/6 of the POCSO Act.

Police said Mukhim was arrested and sent to judicial custody following investigation. The case was investigated and charge-sheeted by WPSI Aidahun Thongni, Investigation Officer of Mairang Police Station.

After completion of the trial, the Special Judge (POCSO), West Khasi Hills, Nongstoin, found Mukhim guilty and sentenced him to 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment and a fine of ₹50,000.

Eastern West Khasi Hills District Police said the successful convictions reflected its commitment to protecting children from sexual offences and ensuring that perpetrators are brought to justice.
