Shillong, October 13: Meghalaya bagged their first win in the U-19 men’s Vinoo Mankad Trophy 2025-26 by 71 runs over Arunachal Pradesh in the plate group in Chandigarh today.
Meghalaya chose to bat first on winning the toss and were all out for 137 in 40.3 overs. They then dismissed Arunachal for just 66 in 17.3 overs.
Arunachal started brightly in the field, reducing Meghalaya to 22/3 but Rudra Singh Rathor (21) partnered with Angkit Tamang (67 not out) for a fourth wicket stand of 27. Without Angkit, Meghalaya’s innings would have looked very different as he was the rock for the team today. Batting patiently, he faced 124 deliveries and hit six fours and one six to finish the innings unbeaten even as the wickets fell around him.
Although not a huge total, 137 was enough to give the bowlers something to defend. After taking an impressive 9 wickets in the first two matches, Mewankitbok Kharpuri did not find success today but his fellow bowlers rallied and produced incisive spells of their own. Apandanka Marak claimed 4/25 in 7 overs, Angkit 4/10 in 4.3 and Gaurav Narleng 2/10 in 3, with Arunachal never allowed to settle into the chase.
Following two defeats, this was a huge boost to the Meghalaya boys and they will look to carry forward this momentum into their next match, which will be against Nagaland on Wednesday.
