Shillong, December 23: The valedictory programme of Home Guard Volunteers was conducted with dignity and ceremonial grandeur on 23rd December 2025 at Laitlyting Lyngkyrdem. The programme marked the successful completion of training of 83 Home Guard Volunteers and highlighted their readiness to serve society in times of need.
Prestone Tynsong, MLA, Deputy Chief Minister, Government of Meghalaya, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The programme commenced with a Salami Parade, followed by the arrival of the Joint Director, Civil Defence & Home Guards, B. Mukhim, and the Chief Guest. The Chief Guest then took the salute and reviewed the parade.
In his keynote address, Prestone Tynsong congratulated the newly inducted Home Guard Volunteers and appreciated their commitment to serving the people. He said that the event is a blessing to the area. He lauded the Directorate of Civil Defence and Home Guards for its efforts and providing the volunteers the best training. He appreciated the village leaders, villagers and parents of Home Guard volunteers for their efforts and collaboration in organising the training. He added that they should carry the honour and glory of Pynursla constituency and Raid Langkyrdem and spread the fragrance to other places of the state. He urged the volunteers to let the certificate they received from the training be the beginning for their career into achieving new heights in life. He greeted the people and implored God’s blessing filled with hope and prosperity as they celebrate Christmas and welcome the New Year.
Speaking on the occasion the Joint Director of Civil Defence and Home Guards Department, B. Mukhim said that the day is filled with joy and pride for the area as they gather together to honour the 83 volunteers who have successfully completed the training. He informed that the volunteers have been imparted training on Arms Drill, Foot Drill, Civil Defence Training and Disaster Management. He added that this training has trained them to be discipline and to have self-confidence. As told to him he said that this is the most disciplined, devoted, sincere and heart working batch which revealed in their turned out and parade. He further said that this training will help them serve people and the nation with dedication, hard work and urged the volunteers to maintain highest level of discipline. He lauded the Officers and instructors of Home Guard Department who worked hard and providing the volunteers a holistic training to enable them to serve the nation. He informed that through the leadership of the Chief Guest, Prestone Tynsong, who called an emergent meeting to resolve the issue of delayed payment of wages to volunteers engaged with Traffic Police and Fire & Emergency Services. He thanked the Chief Guest for his hard work, wisdom, and decisiveness in solving the problems that enabled the Civil Defence and Home Guards Department to solve the issues and pay the volunteers without any delay. He appreciated the volunteers who even amidst the cold weather showed their discipline, sincerity, and turn out. He concluded by urging them to uphold discipline, courage, and a spirit of selfless service.
Addresses were delivered by Rangbah Shnong Iewduh, Lyngkyrdem, Lamjingshai Rynjah, and the Sordar of Raid Lyngkyrdem, who congratulated the volunteers and emphasized their role in maintaining public safety, discipline, and to serve the community with dedication and integrity.
The event witnessed the presence of Badalyne Kharkongor, Divisional Commandant of Home Guards, East Khasi Hills, Benalvic Warjri, Commandant, Central Training Institute of Civil Defence and Home Guards, Shillong, local leaders, officials, family members of the volunteers, and members of the public, making it a memorable and inspiring occasion. The function was chaired by Malcom Kharbudon. The welcome address was delivered by Nalcolmroy Kharbudon, Rangbah Shnong of Laitlyting. The Distribution of Certificates to the passing-out volunteers was carried out by the Chief Guest. The programme concluded with the Parade Dispersal, a Civil Defence Demonstration, and a Vote of Thanks delivered by the Secretary, Laitlyting Lyngkyrdem.
