3rd Edition of “Run for Wildlife” Draws Enthusiastic Crowd in Shillong

Shillong, October 6 : As part of the ongoing Wildlife Week 2025 celebrations, the Wildlife Wing of the Forest and Environment Department successfully organized the third edition of the “Run for Wildlife” in Shillong on October 4, 2025.

The event witnessed over 600 runners across various age groups — children (10–18 years), adults (19–40 years), veterans (41–55 years), and seniors (56 years and above). Among them were professional athletes, enthusiastic schoolchildren, forest officials, and amateur runners. Notably, the large number of female participants made the event particularly inspiring.

The marathon was flagged off from the Forest Management Building, Lower Lachumiere, by Harish Chandra Chaudhary, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Chief Wildlife Warden. He was joined by P.K. Agrahari, Chief Conservator of Forests, and other senior officials.

Runners competed across three routes of 5 km, 7 km, and 10 km, mapped out for different age groups. The race concluded at the same starting point, creating a vibrant and festive atmosphere throughout the event.

The main goal of the event was to raise awareness about Meghalaya’s rich biodiversity and the importance of wildlife conservation. Organizers aimed to educate the public about issues such as climate change, poaching, habitat loss, and human–wildlife conflict, while emphasizing community participation in protecting natural habitats.

The “Run for Wildlife” successfully combined physical fitness with environmental consciousness. Participants showcased endurance, enthusiasm, and sportsmanship, all in support of wildlife protection. The initiative stood as a testament to how collective community efforts can make a difference for both health and habitat.
