New Delhi, April 4 : The Election Commission of India (ECI) has concluded its largest-ever structured engagement drive with political parties across the country. In a span of 25 days, concluding on March 31st, 2025, a total of 4,719 meetings were conducted at the level of Electoral Registration Officer (ERO), District Election Officer (DEO), and Chief Electoral Officer (CEO). These extensive interactions involved over 28,000 representatives of various political parties nationwide.
The initiative saw significant participation at all levels, with 40 meetings convened by Chief Electoral Officers, 800 meetings by District Election Officers, and 3,879 meetings organized by Electoral Registration Officers.
These engagements were conducted in line with the directives issued by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Dr Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr Vivek Joshi, during the Chief Electoral Officers’ conference held on March 4-5, 2025, at IIIDEM, New Delhi.
The primary objective of this comprehensive drive was to provide a platform for political parties to raise and resolve any pending issues related to the electoral process. The respective competent authorities – EROs, DEOs, and CEOs – addressed these concerns within the existing legal framework encompassing the Representation of the People Act 1950 and 1951, the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, the Conduct of Elections Rules, 1961, and various manuals, guidelines, and instructions issued by the ECI.
The Election Commission has sought an Action Taken Report from all State/UT CEOs to further assess the outcomes of these engagements. Any issue that remains unresolved within the current legal framework will be escalated for consideration by the Commission.
The ECI’s engagement drive has been met with positive feedback and enthusiastic participation from political parties across Assembly Constituencies, districts, and States/Union Territories. Visual documentation of these nationwide meetings is available on the ECI’s official social media handles.
