Resubelpara,June 3 : The District Administration of North Garo Hills, Resubelpara, has issued a comprehensive press release advising residents and visitors to exercise extreme caution in view of ongoing adverse weather conditions. The advisory, dated June 2, 2025, emphasizes the need to stay informed and follow official guidelines from the Meghalaya Tourism Department and the Meteorological Department.
In response to these conditions, the North Garo Hills administration has outlined several key precautions:
- Travel Safety: Residents are urged to plan travel schedules carefully and avoid unnecessary travel, particularly to remote areas prone to landslides and flash floods. Safe driving/riding practices are essential due to reduced visibility, slippery roads, and potential traffic diversions.
- Indoor Safety: It is advised to stay indoors during thunderstorms and lightning, unplug electrical appliances, and avoid using mobile phones during lightning strikes.
- Outdoor Activities: All outdoor recreational activities should be avoided during inclement weather, especially in tourist hotspots and open areas.
- Water Bodies: Strictly prohibit venturing into water bodies or waterlogged areas, including rivers, streams, or submerged paths. Parents are instructed to closely monitor children and restrict their outdoor activities, especially near water bodies, agricultural fields, and landslide-prone zones.
- Landslide and Falling Objects: Residents should increase awareness about landslide risks, identify sloping signs of ground movement, falling stones, or minor landslides, and be prepared for evacuation if high-risk zones are identified. Vigilance around trees, electric poles, and other tall structures is advised during heavy rainfall or lightning activity.
In addition to the public advisory, the District Administration has activated its Emergency Helpline and Emergency Response Team. Key contact numbers include:

This advisory comes as Meghalaya continues to grapple with the effects of heavy rainfall. Recently, two lives were lost in East Khasi Hills due to landslide and drowning on May 30, 2025. Road closures due to landslides have also been reported in other parts of the state, including the Shillong-Dawki road near Pynursla. While West Jaintia Hills District has reopened its tourist spots as of June 3, 2025, due to improved local weather, the widespread nature of the warnings underscores the need for continued vigilance across the state.
