CM Releases ₹23.25 Crore to Over 93,000 Farmers Under FOCUS+ Scheme

Shillong, August 14, 2025 – Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has released the first installment of ₹2,500 each to more than 93,000 beneficiaries under the FOCUS+ scheme, totalling ₹23.25 crore for FY 2023-24. The initiative, an expanded version of the state’s flagship FOCUS programme, aims to empower rural households and strengthen the agricultural value chain.

Transforming Rural Livelihoods
Launched in July 2022, FOCUS+ has already supported over 1.5 lakh farmers, disbursing ₹75.3 crore to date to boost agricultural productivity and diversify rural economic activities. The CM said the scheme aligns with the state’s vision to build a $10 billion economy by 2028, noting that economic progress must be inclusive and community-driven.

New Support for Urban Livelihoods
During the event, the CM also announced the Chief Minister Urban Livelihood Grant (CM ULG) to provide direct benefit transfers to street vendors, shopkeepers, and hawkers—an unprecedented move for markets like Iewduh.

Beneficiaries Share Impact
Farmers from across Meghalaya testified to the benefits of the scheme. Mr. Batskhem Nongrum from Mawkynrew Block thanked the government for enabling farmers to access opportunities and incentives. Mr. Khrawkupar Kharbani from Nongstoin said the funds helped him buy seeds and support his family’s livelihood, while also urging more investment in water harvesting to address seasonal farming challenges.

Long-Term Commitment
With an annual investment of nearly ₹500 crore, FOCUS and FOCUS+ are projected to channel ₹5,000 crore to farmers over the next decade. Beneficiaries are provided with FOCUS+ identification cards, and funds are released in installments. The CM urged all recipients to use the funds productively and register on the MeghalayaOne portal for access to government schemes and services.
