Shillong, August 29 : The LARITI Auditorium in Shillong resonated with pride and nostalgia as Apot – A Presage of Tiewlarun was screened today in the presence of Bah Paul Lyngdoh, Minister of Tourism, Government of Meghalaya.
The Minister hailed the film as a powerful testament to the role of storytelling in preserving and promoting cultural identity. Rooted in the age-old Khasi folktale of Tiewlarun—a mystical flower believed to bring misfortune—the film follows the haunting story of a brother and sister, the lone survivors of a plague-stricken village. Beyond its narrative depth, Apot also captures the breathtaking beauty of Meghalaya’s hills, forests, and traditions. The film not only entertains but also serves as a cultural journey, showcasing the state’s scenic grandeur to a wider audience.
Bah Paul Lyngdoh emphasized that the film does justice to the folklore and would inspire a new generation of filmmakers. He expressed confidence that such creative projects will elevate Meghalaya’s cultural standing on the global stage.
The screening underscored Meghalaya’s larger vision of using visual storytelling as a tool to strengthen cultural identity and position the state as a hub for cultural and eco-tourism.
