NEIGRIHMS conducts School Health education and awareness program under Swasth Nari Sashakt

Shillong, September 25 : NEIGRIHMS today celebrated the ‘Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar (SN-SPA) Abhiyaan’ campaign conducting specialized health camps at various schools in Meghalaya spreading the message of Healthy Women, Strong Families among adolescent girls and boys. Health education and awareness sessions were conducted at St. George Higher Secondary School, St. Jerome Higher Secondary School in Nongmensong and Army Public School, 101 area, shillong. A team of doctors and healthcare staff from NEIGRIHMS including public health nursing officers and dietician offered health education on healthy lifestyle, substance abuse, nutrition, responsible citizenship and mental health issues amongst the school going children. Special awareness sessions were conducted focusing on maternal and women’s health including menstrual hygiene

Dr. (Mrs.) Nivedita Malik, Zonal President AWWA (Army Women’s Welfare Association) inaugurated the event at Army Public School, 101 Area, Shillong. The team of specialists including Dr. Wansalan Karu Shullai (Obstetrics and Gynecology), Dr. Star Pala (Community Medicine), Dr. Preety (Community Medicine), Dr. Pragya Pandey (Community Medicine), Wallam Lynrah (Public Health Nursing Officer), Thiris Pala (Nursing Officer, Community Medicine) and Pulak Matabbar (Dietician)from NEIGRIHMS were instrumental in supporting the campaign and providing expert health pearls. The principal of the schools and teaching staff also participated actively to promote the campaign and expressed gratitude towards the doctors and health staff.

Director NEIGRIHMS Prof (Dr). Nalin Mehta applauded the efforts from NEIGRIHMS faculty and staff in organizing the events successfully at various location. Prof. Mehta said that NEIGRIHMS is committed to spread awareness and healthy lifestyle in the community. He further added that NEIGRIHMS will always be at forefront in conducting and promoting such campaigns for uplifting the overall health of the community and especially the young students.
