Shillong, November 18 : In a proud moment for Meghalaya’s football fraternity, PFR Football Academy, the state’s first grassroots football coaching centre, is set to make history as it participates in the 18th Edition of the Bangkok International Super Cup 2025. The tournament will be held from December 3 to 8, 2025, at the National Training Centre, Nong Chok, Bangkok, Thailand.
The academy will field teams in both the U11 and U13 categories, marking the first time a grassroots football coaching centre from Shillong and Meghalaya competes at an international level.
The prestigious Bangkok International Super Cup will see participation from football clubs and academies across Thailand, India, Japan, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Indonesia, and Singapore.
As part of their international exposure, the PFR teams will also attend a one-day special training camp on December 5, conducted by a UEFA-Licensed European Coach, offering young players a rare opportunity to learn advanced techniques and gain global football experience.
According to the Secretary of PFR Football Academy, the invitation was extended by iPlay Sports Co. Ltd. through Prithivi Sports and Events (PES) in recognition of the academy’s remarkable performances in state and out-of-state tournaments. The organisers noted PFR’s commitment to nurturing young talent and deemed its players ready to compete on the international stage.
Head Coach Nylla Meri Wahlang and Assistant Coach Jewelson Lyngdoh expressed their enthusiasm about participating in the global event. “This tournament provides an incredible platform for our players to showcase their talent, learn from international exposure, and improve our coaching methodologies,” said Wahlang.
She added that the players, aged between 10 and 12 years, have undergone intensive training and are fully prepared. “Our squad consists of 99% experienced players who have participated in multiple tournaments outside the state. We are confident and determined to fight for glory,” she said.
The coaches also expressed heartfelt gratitude to Rilang Mylliempdah and Franky Kharumnuid, the academy’s founders, for their vision and dedication toward youth football development in Meghalaya.
