Shillong, December 21 : The Meghalaya Finance Department has released advance payment of one month’s salary and pensions to support festive-season celebrations, benefitting around 50,000 employees and over 30,000 pensioners, besides extending advance payments to casual and contractual workers across the State.
As per the department’s statement, advance releases include ₹348.1 crore for salaries, ₹93.4 crore for pensions, ₹9.7 crore for wages, and ₹4.1 crore for contractual workers.
The Finance Department also released ₹255.5 crore in the current financial year to the three district councils to enable payment of current salaries and clear a few months of pending salaries.
Releases for contractors’ bills were also made under 53–Major Works (₹416.1 crore) and 57–Minor Works (₹154.7 crore), the press release said.
Department-wise releases under this segment total ₹596.7 crore, including allocations for Public Works (₹256.4 crore), Urban Affairs (₹102.5 crore) and Public Health Engineering (₹68.6 crore) among others.
Further releases under other object heads were also made, with major department-wise releases for Dec-FY26 totalling ₹664.1 crore, led by Community & Rural Development (₹102.9 crore), Power (₹101.2 crore) and District Council Affairs (₹101.0 crore).
The department said ₹23 crore was disbursed to 92,051 beneficiaries under the Focus+ scheme through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
Overall, the Finance Department stated it made a total release of ₹1,602.9 crore in December from State resources—a 30.8% increase compared to the previous year’s ₹1,225.2 crore—to support Christmas festivities across Meghalaya.
The Chief Minister (in-charge Finance) conveyed Christmas and New Year greetings to citizens of the State.
