Government Distributes Land Pattas to GAD Settlers in Tura

Tura, February 10 : The Meghalaya Government on Tuesday distributed land pattas to settlers of General Administration Department (GAD) land in the Tura Town Area, marking a major step toward resolving long-pending land ownership issues.

The land document distribution programme was organised by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner (Revenue), West Garo Hills District, at the Nikwatgre Community Hall. Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma attended the event and personally handed over land pattas to beneficiaries from Nikwatgre.

Describing the occasion as “a great and satisfying moment,” the Chief Minister said the issuance of land documents was the result of dedicated collaboration between the government and the public. He stressed that such cooperation was vital for development and growth.

Sangma acknowledged that the absence of proper land documents had caused numerous hardships. “People had to face various administrative, legal and financial challenges due to non-possession of land documents,” he said, adding that the pattas would now provide security and empowerment to residents.

The Chief Minister assured that similar land settlement matters in other localities would also be addressed in due course. He reiterated that the government would proceed only with the consent and cooperation of the people and would not impose any decision unilaterally.

District officials stated that the initiative would help streamline land records, improve governance and bring clarity to land ownership in the Tura Town Area.

The programme was attended by senior district officials, community leaders, beneficiaries and local residents.
