Career Guidance Programme Held in Shillong Ahead of Agniveer and Agniveervayu Recruitment 2026

Shillong, March 2 : The District Administration of East Khasi Hills District hosted a career guidance programme on March 2 at the Soso Tham Auditorium, Shillong, to sensitise and prepare local youth for the upcoming Agniveer (Indian Army) and Agniveervayu (Indian Air Force) recruitment drives 2026 .

The programme was attended by R.M. Kurbah, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, and S. Warjri, MCS, Additional Deputy Commissioner . Strategic insights were shared by Col. Vinay Kumar, Director of the Army Recruiting Office, Retired Lt. Colonel Sebastian Marbaniang, Zila Sainik Welfare Officer, and a resource person from the Indian Air Force .

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner urged local youth to take advantage of the opportunity, noting that recruitment rallies will be held in Shillong to ensure maximum accessibility . She highlighted that over 700 regional candidates joined the Agniveer and BSF last year, reflecting the impact of such guidance sessions .

Col. Vinay Kumar provided a comprehensive roadmap for the Agniveer recruitment process and announced that the online registration window remains open until April 1, 2026 .

Key details shared include:

  • Registration Deadline: April 1, 2026
  • Online Examination: June 1 to June 15, 2026
  • Physical Standards (Women): Baseline height requirement of 162 cm, with a 4 cm relaxation (158 cm) for candidates from the North East Region, as well as Gorkha and Garhwali candidates
  • 1.6 Km Run:
    • Group I: Within 7 minutes 30 seconds
    • Group II: Between 7 minutes 31 seconds and 8 minutes
  • Selection Process: Physical Fitness Test, Physical Measurement Test and Medical Examination

Col. Kumar emphasised the long-term benefits of the Agniveer scheme and encouraged youth to complete their registrations on time .

A Wing Commander from the Indian Air Force informed aspirants that the Agniveervayu recruitment rally for candidates from across the North Eastern States will be held in Shillong .

  • Educational Qualification: Intermediate/10+2 or equivalent in any stream with at least 50% aggregate marks and 50% in English

  • Selection Process: Physical Test followed by Written Examination
  • Career Path: Up to 25% of Agniveers may be enrolled into the permanent cadre based on performance
