Shillong, April 30: The State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) under the Meghalaya State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has issued a public notice informing citizens about a Cell Broadcasting System test scheduled to be conducted in Shillong city on May 2, 2026.
According to the notice, the test is being carried out as per directions from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). During the exercise, mobile phones within the geo-targeted area—limited to Shillong—will receive a test alert accompanied by sound or vibration.
Authorities have clarified that the alert will clearly indicate that it is only a test, and no action is required from the public. Citizens have been advised not to panic upon receiving the notification.
Officials stated that once successfully implemented, the Cell Broadcast system will serve as an important tool for disseminating disaster alerts and advisories to residents across Meghalaya in real time.
The initiative aims to strengthen emergency communication systems and ensure timely information reaches the public during natural disasters or crisis situations.
