Nongpoh, April 30 : The Ri-Bhoi District Police have issued a public advisory urging citizens to refrain from sharing, forwarding, or publishing videos and photographs related to the recent rescue of a newborn baby in the district.
The advisory follows an incident that occurred on April 27, 2026, where a newborn was rescued by members of the public. Authorities noted that visuals related to the incident have been widely circulated on social media platforms.
Police stated that any act revealing the identity of a child in need of care and protection is strictly prohibited and constitutes a serious criminal offence under the law. Such actions are punishable under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, which safeguards the privacy and dignity of minors.
The public has been strongly urged not to upload, share, or forward any content that could disclose the identity of the child. Citizens have also been advised to respect the dignity, privacy, and rights of the minor involved.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered at Nongpoh Women Police Station in connection with the incident, and investigation is currently underway.
The Ri-Bhoi Police also expressed appreciation to the students and members of the public who assisted in rescuing the newborn.
