Traffic Crackdown in Laitumkhrah; Fines Worth ₹1.5 Lakh Imposed

Shillong, May 2: Continuing its enforcement drive in the city, the East Khasi Hills District Police conducted a naka checking at Laitumkhrah Police Point on Friday, deploying around 30 traffic personnel and 15 Special Operations Team (SOT) members.

The operation also saw active participation from members of the Laitumkhrah Dorbar, including the Rangbah Shnong and Rangbah Dong, who supported the initiative and urged authorities to carry out such drives regularly.

During the checking, authorities imposed fines amounting to approximately ₹1.5 lakh. Several cases of drunk driving were detected, along with multiple instances of vehicles with illegal modifications.

In a serious incident, a scooty rider allegedly attempted to run over UBC SM Sangma while trying to evade the checking. Police said necessary legal action is being initiated against the individual.

Officials stated that such enforcement drives will continue as part of ongoing efforts to ensure safer and more secure roads across the district.
