Census 2027 Begins in Meghalaya; Self-Enumeration Facility Open Till May 15

Shillong, May 2 : The first phase of the House Listing and Housing Census (HLO) operations for Census 2027 commenced across Meghalaya on Friday, with citizens given the option to participate through a digital self-enumeration process.

For the first time, households can submit their details through an online self-enumeration portal, where a unique Self-Enumeration (SE) ID will be generated. This information will later be verified by enumerators during house-to-house visits.

The self-enumeration facility will remain open for 15 days, from May 1 to May 15, after which physical house listing operations will be carried out from May 16 to June 14, 2026.

Leading by example, Governor C.H. Vijayashankar was the first to complete the self-enumeration process at Lok Bhavan in Shillong. Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Thomas A. Sangma also registered via the portal at his official residence, while Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma completed the process at Goodwood Bungalow.

Deputy Chief Ministers Prestone Tynsong and Sniawbhalang Dhar also participated in the exercise, completing their self-enumeration at the Chief Minister’s residence.

Officials present during the process included the Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya and State Nodal Officer for Census, along with senior government officials and representatives from the Directorate of Census Operations.

Dignitaries described the portal as simple and user-friendly and urged citizens across the state to make use of the self-enumeration facility to ensure accurate and efficient data collection.
