Shillong, May 5: Nongsder SSA LP School, Nongsder, celebrated its Golden Jubilee, marking 50 years of dedicated service in the field of education with a vibrant and well-attended programme.

The event was graced by Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui, in the presence of local MDC Shemborlang Rynjah, officials including the SDSEO and the SDO of Pynursla Civil Sub-Division, along with the Headmistress, teachers, parents, stakeholders, and students.

The programme commenced with a historical account presented by the Headman of Nongsder village, who highlighted that the school was established in 1976 by a Member of the District Council. Initially sponsored by the District Council, the institution began with just 30 students and one teacher. Over the years, it has steadily expanded and currently accommodates 77 students with two teachers under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan framework.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Lahkmen Rymbui paid tribute to the founders and early contributors who laid the foundation of the school. He also acknowledged the presence of the institution’s first teacher, describing it as a significant and emotional moment for the entire school community.

The Minister encouraged students to remain dedicated to their studies and develop a positive mindset from an early age. Emphasising the importance of skill development, he noted that success should not be confined to government employment. Referring to the government’s Community Skills Integrated Learning initiative, he urged students, particularly from rural areas, to take advantage of such programmes and other schemes aimed at empowering youth.

He also called on parents to actively guide their children by encouraging them to learn practical skills and values from everyday life.

Responding to a memorandum submitted by the school authorities, the Minister assured the School Management Committee that necessary discussions would be held to address key concerns and extend support where required.

Other speakers at the event highlighted the importance of education and community participation, while the school’s first teacher shared her experiences, adding an emotional touch to the celebration.

The Golden Jubilee programme also featured colourful cultural performances by students, making the occasion memorable for the entire community.
