Shillong, May 12: Renowned Meghalaya fashion designer and cultural icon Daniel Syiem was honoured with the prestigious “Iconic Trailblazer in Regional Couture” award at the Oriflame Presents WhosNext2026 Influencer Awards – East & Northeast Edition held in Kolkata.
The event, organised by Whosthat360 and presented by Oriflame India, celebrated creators, artists, and changemakers from across Eastern and Northeastern India. Meghalaya Tourism was the Associate Partner for the event.
Daniel Syiem, known for blending indigenous traditions with contemporary fashion storytelling, has emerged as one of the leading ambassadors of Meghalaya’s cultural identity on national and international platforms. Through his designs, he has consistently highlighted the rich heritage, textiles, and craftsmanship of Northeast India while also promoting and empowering local artisans.
Receiving the award, an emotional Daniel Syiem reflected on his journey from Meghalaya to national recognition.
“It is truly an honour to receive the Iconic Trailblazer in Regional Couture Award. I extend my heartfelt thanks to the team at Whosthat360 for this recognition,” he said.
“My journey began as a boy from the hills, carrying big dreams—to share the stories of my people through fashion. Standing here today, I feel incredibly blessed to be living that dream,” he added.
Syiem also expressed gratitude to his supporters and credited his success to faith and teamwork.
“None of this would have been possible without God’s grace and guidance. I am equally grateful for my unwavering support system—my family, friends, well-wishers, and my team, who have always been my backbone. This achievement belongs to all of you. God bless,” he said.
His recognition at the East & Northeast Edition of the awards marks another proud achievement for Meghalaya and highlights the growing influence of Northeast India’s cultural and creative voices on larger platforms.
