NPP, BJP Leader Condemn Killing of Church Leaders in Manipur, Demand Swift Justice

Shillong, May 13: The A. L. Hek and the National People’s Party have strongly condemned the killing of three civilians, including church leaders, in Manipur, describing the incident as a brutal and inhuman act that threatens peace and communal harmony in the region.

In a statement issued by NPP National Secretary Saidul Khan, the party termed the killings a “senseless act of violence” and expressed deep anguish over the deaths of pastors and church workers associated with the Manipur Baptist Convention and the Kuki Church Leaders Forum.

The party stated that the victims were respected members of the Kuki Baptist community who had dedicated their lives to spiritual guidance, peacebuilding, and humanitarian service.

“The targeting of such individuals is not only an attack on innocent lives but also a grave assault on the values of harmony, compassion, and coexistence that bind our society together,” the statement said.

The NPP extended solidarity to the bereaved families and the Kuki Baptist community while offering prayers and condolences to the victims. It also wished speedy recovery to those injured in the incident.

Calling for urgent intervention, the party urged both the Government of India and the Government of Manipur to conduct a thorough, transparent, and time-bound investigation into the killings and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice without delay.

The party also appealed for enhanced security measures in conflict-affected areas, stating that repeated attacks on civilians and community leaders underline the urgent need for stronger preventive action.

Reiterating the importance of dialogue and reconciliation, the NPP said violence can never resolve grievances and warned that such incidents only deepen divisions and prolong suffering.

Meanwhile, senior BJP leader and Pynthorumkhrah MLA A. L. Hek also strongly condemned the killing of three civilians, including church leaders, in an ambush between the Kotlen and Kotzim areas of Kangpokpi district in Manipur.

Describing the incident as a “heinous terror act,” Hek said there can be no justification for such brutal violence and stressed that the perpetrators must be punished swiftly.

“Religious leaders have remained a vital source of hope and strength for communities during prolonged unrest. Targeting innocent civilians, including church leaders, is a deeply disturbing and inhuman act that deserves the strongest condemnation,” Hek said.

He added that violence only deepens wounds, prolongs suffering, and further weakens the fragile bonds between communities already affected by conflict.

Hek urged the Centre, the Manipur Government, and concerned authorities to act with urgency, wisdom, and fairness to restore peace and public confidence in the region.

Calling for strict action against those responsible, he said justice must not only be delivered swiftly but also visibly to reassure affected communities and prevent further escalation of violence.

The killings have once again raised concerns over the continuing law and order situation in Manipur, where sporadic violence has continued despite repeated appeals for peace.
