MBOSE Opens Registration for Private SSLC Candidates in Meghalaya

Tura, May 20: The Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) has announced that registration for Private Candidates for the SSLC Examination is now open across the state.

In a notification issued on May 20, MBOSE informed that eligible candidates may contact their nearest notified SSLC Examination Centres for registration and further details. Only designated SSLC examination centres have been authorised to register private candidates.

According to the Board, eligibility has been extended to candidates who discontinued regular schooling due to genuine hardship, those who exhausted all permissible attempts up to 2025, as well as individuals pursuing professional sports, games and professional art forms.

MBOSE stated that applicants must be domiciles of Meghalaya and submit valid supporting documents such as MHIS Card, Aadhaar Card, Voter ID, Birth Certificate, Caste Certificate or other approved documents as proof of domicile.

The Board further clarified that there is no upper age limit for admission as a private candidate. However, candidates must have attained a minimum age of 15 years on or before December 31 of the year in which they intend to appear for the SSLC examination.

MBOSE has also introduced a “cooling-off period” for school dropouts. Students who discontinued regular schooling before completing Class X will become eligible only after the expiry of a minimum period calculated as ten years minus the last class studied.

The notification stated that examination centres will assess candidates based on academic preparedness and competency assessments, particularly in cases where documentary evidence relating to the last class studied is unavailable.

MBOSE said the provision is intended to discourage premature withdrawal from regular schooling solely for appearing as a private candidate.

The last date for registration has been fixed as June 30, 2026.
