Shillong, June 6 : Consumers in Meghalaya will have to pay more for cooking gas after state-owned oil marketing companies increased the price of domestic LPG cylinders by ₹29, marking the second hike in household LPG prices within the last three months.
Following the latest revision, the retail price of a 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder in Shillong has risen to around ₹1035, adding to the financial burden on households already grappling with rising living costs.
Commercial LPG users have also been affected by the recent price revision. The price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder in Meghalaya now stands at ₹3,377, following a nationwide increase of up to ₹53.50 per cylinder. Meanwhile, the 47.5-kg commercial cylinder is priced at ₹8,437
According to industry sources, the increase in LPG prices has been driven by rising international energy costs amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia and concerns over disruptions to global fuel supplies. State-run oil marketing companies have also cited mounting losses on domestic LPG sales despite the latest price hike.
The revised rates also affect users of the 5-kg Free Trade LPG (Chhotu) cylinder, with a new connection costing ₹1,836.50, while refill charges have been fixed at ₹892.50.
The latest increase is expected to impact household budgets as well as businesses that rely heavily on LPG, including restaurants, hotels and small commercial establishments across the State.
