Shillong Lajong FC Extends Contracts of Eight Local Players to Strengthen Long-Term Squad

Shillong, June 29: Shillong Lajong Football Club has announced the contract renewal and extension of eight promising players from Meghalaya and the North East, reaffirming its commitment to developing and retaining homegrown talent as it prepares for future Indian football competitions.

The club has handed three-year contract extensions to forwards Phrangki Buam and Everbrightson Sana Mylliempdah, defender Kenstar Kharshong, and midfielders Gladdy Nelcen Kharbuli and Tremiki Lamurong. Goalkeeper Siwel Rymbai, defender Kitboklang Khyriem, and midfielder Abhay Gurung have signed two-year extensions.

Shillong Lajong said the renewals reflect its long-term vision of building a strong core of local players who embody the identity, passion and footballing culture of Meghalaya. The club added that the players have demonstrated dedication, growth and potential while making significant contributions both on and off the field.

Speaking on the development, Managing Director Larsing LD Sawyan said seven of the eight players have progressed through the Lajong Academy Development Programme, underscoring the club’s continued investment in youth development.

“We are happy to extend contracts with the eight players, seven of whom have been part of the Lajong Academy Development Programme. This shows the commitment of the club towards ensuring a strong and sustained participation in the upcoming Indian Football League,” Sawyan said.

He further revealed that two players from the current squad are set to sign contracts with Indian Super League (ISL) clubs. However, the club has made every effort to retain the rest of the squad and expressed satisfaction that both the team captain and vice-captain have committed their futures to Shillong Lajong. He added that the club is making strategic signings to replace the departing players and an announcement on the new additions will be made soon.

Shillong Lajong reiterated that it will continue prioritising youth development and local representation, providing players from the region with opportunities to compete at the highest level while contributing to the club’s success in the years ahead.
