Shillong, July 8: The National Law University (NLU) Meghalaya celebrated its 3rd Foundation Day on Wednesday with the Chief Justice of the High Court of Meghalaya and Chancellor of the university, Justice Revati Mohite Dere, gracing the occasion as the chief guest.
The celebrations began with the inauguration of the university’s new Moot Court Room by Justice Dere, followed by a ceremonial tree plantation on the campus to commemorate the occasion.
The formal programme, held at the Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Auditorium, commenced with a welcome address by Vice-Chancellor (In-charge) Kerpa Meida Lyngdoh Nongbri. An institutional video showcasing the university’s vision, academic initiatives, achievements and institutional development was screened, followed by the official launch of the university’s Student House System.
Addressing students, Justice Dere described the study of law as a lifelong journey of learning and stressed that there is no substitute for hard work, perseverance and continuous self-improvement in the legal profession. She encouraged students to gain practical exposure through internships with district courts, prosecutors, defence lawyers and non-governmental organisations to better understand the justice delivery system at the grassroots level.
The Chief Justice also urged aspiring legal professionals to remain open to new perspectives and pursue their careers with integrity, dedication and a strong commitment to serving society.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Baharul Islam, Registrar of the university. According to the university, the Chancellor’s visit marked a significant milestone in its continued pursuit of excellence in legal education and institutional development.
