Shillong, July 17: An unexploded ordnance (UXO), suspected to be a remnant from World War II, was discovered behind a residential house at Langkyrding Mihngi, Shillong, on Sunday evening. The unexploded ordnance was found at around 4:10 pm behind the house of Balindashisha Suting.
Speaking about the incident, Balindashisha Suting said the explosive was discovered by her eight-year-old daughter while she was digging soil behind their house to cover a spot where a cat had defecated.
On noticing the suspicious object, the family immediately informed the village headman. Shortly afterwards, a Bomb Squad team arrived at the scene and safely took custody of the unexploded ordnance for further examination and disposal.
Authorities suspect the explosive could be a leftover from the Second World War. No injuries or damage were reported in the incident.
