Accused in Pyndenumsaw Woman’s Murder Arrested; Police Seek Custody for Weapon Recovery

Mawkyrwat, July 15: The accused in the murder of a A 56-year-old woman by her elder brother at Pyndenumsaw village in South West Khasi Hills district on Monday morning was arrested on Wednesday morning after being apprehended by villagers at Rohbah village, police said.

According to police, information was received from village heads at around 7:30 am that the accused had been caught and taken to the Dorbar Hall at Pyndenumsaw village. Personnel from the Mawkyrwat Women Police Station, accompanied by an escort team, immediately proceeded to the village and took the accused into custody. He was subsequently taken to Civil Hospital, Mawkyrwat, for medical examination.

Police said the accused allegedly admitted his involvement in the offence in a statement made before the medical officer. His clothes and blood sample were collected and seized as part of the investigation. Following the medical examination, the accused was brought to the Mawkyrwat Women Police Station and formally arrested in connection with the case.

During interrogation, police said the accused disclosed his alleged role in the crime and expressed willingness to lead investigators to the location where the weapon used in the offence could be recovered.

The accused was later produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, with police seeking one day of custody for crime-scene reconstruction, recovery of the weapon and further questioning to establish the motive behind the murder.
