Shillong, July 20: The State-Level Subroto Mukherjee Cup Football Tournament 2026 will begin in Shillong on Tuesday, bringing together school teams from districts across Meghalaya in three age categories.
Organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, the tournament will be held from July 21 to 25 and will feature competitions in the Under-15 Boys, Under-17 Boys and Under-17 Girls categories.
Matches will be played at the SSA Stadium, Polo; Mawlai Stadium, Madan Heh; and MFA Turf, Polo. The group-stage matches will be held from July 21 to 23, followed by the semi-finals on July 24 and the finals on July 25.
The participating teams have been divided into four groups, with schools representing different districts of the state.
In the Under-15 Boys category, participating schools include Maharam Government Higher Secondary School, Little Star Higher Secondary School, Mangsang Higher Secondary School, Dilma Apal Higher Secondary School, Baghmara Government Higher Secondary School, Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, North Liberty Higher Secondary School, Anderson Higher Secondary School, Myngken Christian Higher Secondary School, Step By Step Secondary School and St. Claret Higher Secondary School.
The Under-17 Boys category will feature Karukol Higher Secondary School, Balang Mawlangwir Higher Secondary School, Dapboklang Giri Memorial Secondary School, O.M. Roy Memorial Higher Secondary School, Little Star Secondary School, Myngken Christian Higher Secondary School, St. Paul Higher Secondary School, Okkapara Secondary School, Wapung Higher Secondary School, Montfort Secondary School, Amwi Higher Secondary School and Bajengdoba Higher Secondary School.
In the Under-17 Girls category, teams include Upper Kharkutta UP School, St. Claret Higher Secondary School, North Liberty Higher Secondary School, Nongjri Presbyterian Secondary School, Lotus Secondary School, Rangthong Christian Higher Secondary School, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, Lurmangkara Secondary School, Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Little Star Higher Secondary School, Rangku Memorial Girls Higher Secondary School and Tyrsad Higher Secondary School.
The Sports and Youth Affairs Department said the tournament forms part of the state government’s efforts to identify promising football talent at the grassroots level and provide young athletes with opportunities to compete at national and international levels.
