Shillong, July 19: The Meghalaya Government has declared a holiday on Monday, July 20, for educational institutions across the state in view of the widespread public interest in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final, which will be played during the early hours of the day.
The Directorate of School Education and Literacy (DSEL) has ordered that all Government, Government-Aided and Private Schools in Meghalaya will remain closed on July 20. The order said the decision was taken considering the likely impact on the attendance and well-being of students and teaching staff.
The Directorate of Higher and Technical Education has also announced that all Government Colleges, Government Polytechnics and the Shillong Government College of Engineering under its administrative control will remain closed on the same day. It has further advised private higher educational institutions and Captain Williamson Sangma State University (CWSSU) to consider declaring a holiday in the interest of students, faculty members and staff.
Meanwhile, Captain Williamson Sangma State University (CWSSU) has postponed all UG and PG examinationsscheduled for July 20 due to the state government’s holiday announcement.
According to a notification issued by the university, the deferred examinations will now be conducted on July 31, 2026. The university has requested all students, faculty members and affiliated colleges to take note of the revised examination schedule.
