Shillong, July 22: BJP Meghalaya spokesperson Arnab Das has clarified that the party does not endorse any of the recent statements circulating on social media and subsequently reported by the media, stating that the claims are false.
In a press release, Das said the party had sought clarification from its Yuva Morcha president, who categorically denied making any such statements. He said any person attributing statements to a source on social media should verify their authenticity, as social media accounts can be hacked and misused. He pointed out that several leaders in the State had, in the past, faced similar experiences of their social media accounts being compromised. “The party strongly denies making any such irresponsible statements, as party statements always come through proper channels,” Das said.
The BJP Meghalaya unit also said it respects the fundamental right of the student community to protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. However, it opposed what it described as attempts by other political parties to “hijack” the students’ protest and claim political mileage.
The party also condemned violence against police personnel and appealed to the student community to maintain peace and not allow opposition parties to take advantage of the volatile situation. Das further said the State unit strongly condemned the Congress party’s alleged attempt to enter the official residence of the Prime Minister, stating that such an act raises questions about their intent and poses concerns regarding the security of the Prime Minister, who heads the world’s largest democracy.
The BJP condemned such actions by opposition parties and pointed out that there was already a disagreement between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress over the protest, with both parties accusing each other of attempting to hijack the event.
The BJP reiterated that it does not endorse violence of any kind and said it would ensure that protests remain largely peaceful. Das also referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement that 13 arrests had been made in connection with the alleged NEET question paper leak. He said the Central Government had acted swiftly and assured that sweeping reforms would be undertaken.
He added that the country needs to remain patient as implementing such reforms would take time due to the large population and the federal structure of the country. “Our Prime Minister remains fully committed to bringing about a lasting change in our existing education system for a secure future for our students,” Das said.
