Shillong Residents Rally in Solidarity with NEET-UG Protesters in Delhi

Shillong, July 23: Residents of Shillong, including parents, children and students from different communities, held demonstrations on Thursday in solidarity with students protesting at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi over the alleged NEET-UG question paper leak.

At Laitumkhrah, students and parents raised slogans criticising the Narendra Modi-led government and expressing opposition to the NDA Government’s handling of the issue. Students and Children carrying placards condemned the BJP-led NDA Government and demanded accountability over the alleged irregularities in the medical entrance examination.

Later in the evening, thousands of residents, including members of indigenous and other communities, attended a public gathering organised by the Hynniewtrep Youths’ Council (HYC) in front of the old Assembly building at Khyndai Lad. Leaders and representatives of several civil society organisations from Shillong also participated in the gathering.

North Shillong MLA Adelbert Nongrum, who joined the gathering as a concerned citizen, said the protest was organised to condemn those allegedly responsible for leaking the NEET-UG examination questions. He demanded stringent punishment for everyone found involved in the alleged leak and strongly condemned the Delhi Police for reportedly using force against protesting students.

Meanwhile, the Khasi Students’ Union Delhi Unit, led by its president Marbiang Khongwir, also joined the ongoing student protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
