Shillong, July 24: The Shillong Traffic Police will launch a special enforcement drive titled “Operation Free Flow” to tackle increasing instances of haphazard parking, traffic congestion and obstruction of carriageways in the city.
The East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Vivek Syiem, said a dedicated Shillong Traffic Enforcement Team (STET) has been constituted to implement the initiative effectively.
The team will conduct intensive enforcement against vehicles parked in No Parking Zones or in a manner that obstructs the free movement of traffic. The drive will be implemented strictly and impartially, except in cases involving genuine or medical emergencies.
Police said the initiative is not merely an enforcement exercise but is also aimed at promoting responsible parking, improving traffic discipline and ensuring safer and more efficient roads for all users.
The Shillong Traffic Police urged residents to support the initiative by following traffic rules and encouraging others to do the same. It said responsible parking and disciplined road use are essential to reducing congestion and maintaining the free flow of traffic in Shillong.
