Shillong, July 25: The Meghalaya State Judicial Academy, under the High Court of Meghalaya, on Saturday organised a one-day programme titled “Bridging Law and Justice: From Principles to Practice” under the guidance of Justice Revati Mohite Dere, Chief Justice of the High Court of Meghalaya and Patron-in-Chief of the Academy.
The programme brought together Judicial Officers from across Meghalaya for an academic engagement aimed at strengthening judicial knowledge, ethical values and practical adjudicatory skills.
The inaugural session featured an address by Justice Abhay Srinivas Oka, former Judge of the Supreme Court of India, who spoke on judicial conduct, ethics and court management. He highlighted the importance of integrity, impartiality and efficient judicial administration.
Former Judges of the Bombay High Court also led technical sessions during the programme. Justice Shalini P. Joshi delivered a comprehensive session on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, covering child victim statements, appreciation of evidence, age determination and child-sensitive trials. Justice Sadhana Sanjay Jadhav presented a comparative analysis of the Indian Evidence Act and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, while Justice Mridula Bhatkar discussed injunctions under the Code of Civil Procedure, judgment writing, judicial discretion, and legal and logical reasoning.
Each technical session concluded with interactive discussions, allowing Judicial Officers to engage directly with the resource persons on practical issues encountered in judicial work.
The programme concluded with closing remarks reaffirming the commitment of the High Court of Meghalaya and the Meghalaya State Judicial Academy towards continuous judicial education and capacity building. The initiative reflects the Academy’s continued efforts to promote excellence in judicial administration through sustained learning and meaningful interaction with eminent members of the judiciary.
