Shillong, July 31: The Autumn Session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly will be held from August 24 to August 28, 2026, with the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) on Friday unanimously approving a five-day legislative calendar.
Briefing reporters after the BAC meeting, Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker Thomas A. Sangma said the session will comprise three days of Government Business and two days of Private Members’ Business.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of Parliamentary Affairs Prestone Tynsong, Leader of the Opposition Dr. Mukul M. Sangma, Opposition Chief Whip Charles Pyngrope, Assembly Secretary Malthus S. Sangma and other members of the committee.
Responding to concerns over the duration of the session, the Speaker said the allocation of time remains an important issue and assured that efforts would be made to provide adequate opportunities to members from both the treasury and opposition benches to raise matters of public importance. “I will try my best to accommodate all the members concerned and ensure that every member gets an opportunity to express their concerns on the floor of the House,” Sangma said.
According to the calendar approved by the BAC, the opening day on Monday, August 24, will be devoted to Government Business. The House will take up the announcement of the BAC report, nomination of members to the Panel of Chairmen, laying of ordinances, orders, notifications, reports, rules and regulations, introduction of Government Bills, presentation of Supplementary Demands for Grants and Supplementary Appropriation for 2026–27, besides obituary references.
Tuesday, August 25, will be reserved for Private Members’ Business, including Private Members’ Bills, motions and resolutions.
On Wednesday, August 26, the House will take up Government Business, including voting on the Supplementary Demands for Grants.
Thursday, August 27, will again be devoted to Private Members’ Business, with Private Members’ Bills, resolutions and motions listed for consideration.
The final day, Friday, August 28, will be reserved for Government Business. The House will take up voting on Supplementary Demands for Grants, introduction, consideration and passing of the Meghalaya Appropriation (No. III) Bill, 2026, and consideration and passing of Government Bills.
The session will conclude with prorogation or adjournment sine die.
