Shillong, August 20: The Directorate of Prosecution, Government of Meghalaya, conducted its first state-level training programme on e-Prosecution at the Meghalaya Administrative Training Institute (MATI), Mawdiangdiang, aimed at strengthening digital prosecution management and institutionalising prosecution services in the state.

The programme was organised in collaboration with NIC Shillong, the NIC e-Prosecution Team, New Delhi, and the State Crime Records Bureau through its CCTNS IT Section.

More than 120 prosecutors from East Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills, East Jaintia Hills, West Jaintia Hills, Ri-Bhoi, Eastern West Khasi Hills and South West Khasi Hills participated in the training.

The training covered key aspects of the e-Prosecution Portal, including its integration with the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) and other pillars of the Inter-Operable Criminal Justice System (ICJS).

Participants were also trained on the duties and responsibilities of prosecutors, DUTR and court proceedings updates, data accuracy and institutional monitoring. The programme included live demonstrations and a hands-on practical workshop on the e-Prosecution Portal.

Resource persons included representatives from NIC Meghalaya, the NIC e-Prosecution Team, the Directorate of Prosecution and the CCTNS IT framework.

According to the Directorate, the programme received positive feedback from participants, with prosecutors expressing interest in more practical sessions to strengthen prosecution capacity and improve digital case management.

The programme concluded with an interactive feedback session and distribution of certificates. The next phase of the training will be organised for prosecutors from the Garo Hills districts in collaboration with the same institutional partners.

The initiative is intended to expand coverage and establish a uniform, digitally enabled and institutionalised prosecution system across Meghalaya. The Directorate said the training marks an important step towards building a stronger, better coordinated and digitally enabled prosecution system in the state.
