Shillong, August 21, 2026: Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker Thomas A. Sangma on Friday met Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram and submitted a proposal along with the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the second phase of the New Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.
During the meeting, Sangma also raised the issue of the pending Central share of scholarships for tribal students in Meghalaya and urged the Union Minister to facilitate its early release.
The Speaker requested that the pending scholarship amount be released in a single instalment instead of multiple instalments, saying such a move would help reduce uncertainty and dissatisfaction among students awaiting financial assistance.
Sangma stressed that timely disbursement of scholarship funds is essential to ensure that tribal students in Meghalaya do not face unnecessary difficulties in continuing their education.
The meeting also covered matters related to the further development of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly and the educational welfare of tribal students in the State.
