Shillong, August 27 : The Meghalaya State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has issued a public notice seeking information on residents of the State who may be missing or uncontactable in Nepal following a devastating flash flood and mudslide on August 26.
According to the notice, the disaster particularly affected Rasuwa district near the Nepal–Tibet border, causing extensive damage to villages, roads, bridges and other infrastructure. A large number of people have also reportedly gone missing or remain uncontactable.
In view of the situation, the SDMA has appealed to family members, relatives, friends, travel agencies, tour operators and members of the public to share information regarding any person from Meghalaya who may be missing or unable to establish contact from Nepal.
The authority has issued a dedicated helpline number, 6009924512, while people can also contact emergency numbers 112 or 1070, and CM Connect at 1971.
Callers have been requested to provide, wherever available, the name and age of the person concerned, contact number, address in Meghalaya, last known location in Nepal, date and time of last communication, and contact details of the family member or informant.
The SDMA said the information received will be compiled and shared with the concerned authorities for verification and necessary assistance.
The State Disaster Management Authority has appealed for public cooperation in helping trace Meghalaya residents who may have been affected by the disaster.
