IMD Forecasts Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms Across Meghalaya Till August 31

Shillong, August 27 : The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Meteorological Centre Shillong, has forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places in several districts of Meghalaya along with thunderstorms and lightning across the State during the next five days.

According to the weather warning issued on August 27, heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over South West Khasi Hills and East Khasi Hills districts on Thursday, while thunderstorms and lightning are expected at many places across Meghalaya.

On August 28, heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in East Khasi Hills district, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning at many places over the State.

Similar conditions are expected on August 29 and 30, with isolated heavy rainfall forecast over East Khasi Hills and thunderstorms or lightning likely at many places across Meghalaya.

The weather activity is expected to expand on August 31, when isolated heavy rainfall is forecast over South West Khasi Hills, East Khasi Hills, West Jaintia Hills and East Jaintia Hills districts.

Thunderstorms and lightning are also likely at many places across Meghalaya on August 31.

The IMD weather warning map places Meghalaya under the yellow “Watch — Be Aware” category during the five-day period.

Residents, particularly those in areas vulnerable to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, have been advised to remain alert to changing weather conditions and follow official advisories.
