Shillong, September 15: The Meghalaya government’s Fact-Finding Committee has invited individuals, organisations and members of the public to submit representations regarding the proposed establishment of a Shree Cement plant in East Jaintia Hills district.
The representations, containing proper contact details, may be submitted in hard or soft copy by September 29, according to a public notice issued by the committee.
The state government constituted the committee through a notification dated September 8, 2026, to examine the circumstances surrounding the proposed cement plant.
The committee has been tasked with investigating the causes and circumstances that led to the disruption of a public hearing scheduled by the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board in East Jaintia Hills on July 31.
It will also assess the possible environmental, social, legal and criminal implications of establishing the cement plant and subsequently submit a comprehensive fact-finding report.
The committee may consult, summon or hold discussions with different stakeholders wherever necessary.
Members of the public interested in personally presenting their views may appear before the committee on dates to be announced later.

The committee is chaired by Commissioner and Secretary to the Meghalaya government C.V.D. Diengdoh.
