Nongstoin, September 30 : The West Khasi Hills District Administration has condemned the disruption of an ongoing Staff Nurse recruitment interview at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Nongstoin, saying the official selection process must be allowed to function without interference.
The recruitment is being conducted for contractual Staff Nurse posts at MCH, Nongstoin. The written examination was held at Nongstoin College on September 21, following which 60 candidates were shortlisted for personal interviews scheduled for September 29 and 30 before a duly constituted interview board.
According to the District Administration, the Nongstoin MDC entered the interview hall on September 29 without prior intimation or permission while the interview was in progress and raised his voice at members of the interview board in the presence of candidates.
The administration said the proceedings were interrupted, causing distress to both the candidates and the interview board. The MDC was subsequently escorted to the chamber of the Deputy Commissioner, where he reportedly made certain verbal allegations regarding the recruitment process.
Condemning the incident, the District Administration said no individual, regardless of position, is permitted to enter a recruitment venue without authorisation or obstruct officials performing their duties.
It said the incident is being examined and appropriate action will be taken in accordance with law.
The administration also said that any concern regarding the recruitment should be submitted in writing with specific details and supporting evidence. Anyone with information about demands for money or other malpractice has been asked to report the matter to the Deputy Commissioner, West Khasi Hills.
It further clarified that selection will be based strictly on merit through the written examination and personal interview and that no payment is required at any stage of the recruitment process.
Candidates have been cautioned against touts or individuals claiming they can influence the selection and have been urged to immediately report any such approach.
The District Administration said the recruitment would be completed in a fair, transparent and time-bound manner and appealed for cooperation to ensure that the MCH Hospital in Nongstoin becomes operational at the earliest.
