New Delhi, September 30: The Government of Meghalaya and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) have further strengthened their partnership in the areas of food security, nutrition and related cooperation with the signing of an amendment to their existing agreement.
The amendment was signed at the WFP Head Office in New Delhi in the presence of Meghalaya Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Methodious Dkhar. Commissioner and Secretary, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, Pravin Bakshi, IAS, signed the amendment on behalf of the Meghalaya Government, while WFP India Representative and Country Director Elisabeth Faure signed on behalf of the UN agency. The Meghalaya delegation also included Director, FCSCA, I. Mawlong, IAS; Under Secretary B. Syiemlieh; and OSD S. K. War. WFP was represented by Ankit Sood and Rodrick John.
The renewed partnership builds on the collaboration between the Meghalaya Government and WFP since 2022 in areas such as food security, reforms in the Public Distribution System, supply chain optimisation, digital innovation, beneficiary services and institutional capacity building. According to the government, the amended agreement will further promote cooperation, innovation and capacity building while strengthening food security systems in Meghalaya.
The partnership is also expected to support the state’s efforts towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal 2 — Zero Hunger. The signing marks another step in the continuing collaboration between the Meghalaya Government and WFP to improve food security and nutrition outcomes for people in the state.
