Meghalaya Judicial Academy Holds Clean Air Outreach Programme in Byrnihat

Nongpoh, October 9: The Meghalaya State Judicial Academy (MSJA), under the aegis of the High Court of Meghalaya, organised a one-day outreach programme on “Right to Clean Air: From Statistics to Action” at the Multipurpose Hall, Byrnihat, in collaboration with the Office of the BDO, Umling C&RD Block, Ri-Bhoi district.

The programme was organised amid growing concerns over air pollution in the Byrnihat Circle and sought to highlight environmental responsibility, community welfare and the role of institutions in addressing pollution-related challenges.

MSJA Director K.M. Lyngdoh Nongbri attended the programme, which began with a welcome address by Umling C&RD Block BDO Eric Kevin Dkhar. MSJA Deputy Director N.I. Dkhar delivered the introductory address.

Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board Chief Environmental Engineer Wanshanbor R. Kharkrang delivered a session on the statistical report on air pollution in Byrnihat, while Chief Scientist S. Swer spoke on the Waste Management Rules, 2026.

Members of YoMariang, the Environmental & Circular Systems Division of ISMG, also conducted a session on the role of communities in controlling air pollution and innovative approaches to waste management.

The programme included interactive activities such as students’ hotspot mapping, a waste segregation challenge, a waste and pollution detective puzzle, demonstration videos on waste and air pollution, and distribution of vehicle waste pouches.

It concluded with community experience-sharing, a summary of key takeaways and a vote of thanks.
