Shillong, August 08 : The One Man Inquiry Commission headed by Mrs. Justice Rumi Kumari Phukan (Retd.) concluded its hearing on the Mukhroh incident from Meghalaya side on August 7, 2023. The Commission had notified in local newspaper on August 4, 2023, for interested and willing persons having knowledge of the incident to appear before it here in shillong at Assam House, Dhankheti. The Government of Meghalaya was also notified and requested to produce all relevant witnesses and documents. However, no witnesses appeared before the Commission and the Government did not cooperate with the investigation.
The Commission expressed deep concern over the lack of cooperation from the Meghalaya government and has closed the hearing from the Meghalaya side. The Commission will now return to Guwahati and continue its investigation.
The Mukhroh incident took place on November 22, 2022, bordering West Karbi Anglong district of Assam. Six people, including a forest guard, were killed in police firing.
