Shillong, August 26 : Around 70 young Mizo students and volunteers participated in a voluntary blood donation drive organised at NEIGRIHMS, Shillong, on Wednesday in response to an acute shortage of blood at the hospital.
The drive was organised by the Young Mizo Association (YMA), Shillong Group, in collaboration with the Mizo Students’ Union (MSU), Shillong.
According to the organisers, the initiative was undertaken following an urgent request from Dr Memtombi, In-charge of the Blood Bank at NEIGRIHMS, who informed them about the shortage of blood required for patients undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Responding to the appeal, around 70 young Mizo students and volunteers came forward to donate blood.
The organisers said the event was marked by a spirit of unity and voluntary service, with the donors expressing satisfaction at being able to contribute towards helping patients in need.
Leaders of the YMA Shillong Group and MSU Shillong thanked the students and volunteers for responding to the call in large numbers and commended them for demonstrating compassion and concern for others through blood donation.
They said the participation of the young volunteers reflected the importance of community service and showed how voluntary blood donation can make a life-saving difference.
The two organisations also expressed appreciation to Dr Memtombi and the NEIGRIHMS Blood Bank team for facilitating the initiative and providing the volunteers an opportunity to contribute.
The organisers expressed hope that the blood collected during the drive would help patients undergoing treatment and encouraged more young people to participate in similar humanitarian initiatives in the future.
“Give Blood, Give Life – Every Drop Counts,” the organisers said.
