Shillong, February 13 : The 4th edition of the Assam Rifles Sentinels Cup Football Tournament (Men & Women) will be held in Shillong from 17 to 27 February 2026, bringing together top footballing talent from across the region. Matches will be played at multiple venues, with the opening and final scheduled at SSA 1st Ground, Polo.
Organised by the Assam Rifles, the tournament continues its tradition of promoting sportsmanship, unity and community engagement through football.
This year’s edition expands the competition to include both men’s and women’s tournaments. Eight teams in each category — representing clubs from Meghalaya along with Assam Rifles, Indian Army and Meghalaya Police — will compete in group stages followed by knockout rounds leading to the final.
The inaugural match will kick off on 17 February at 2:00 PM, while the grand finale will take place on 27 February. Entry to both matches will be free for the public.
The winning team will receive a cash prize of ₹3,00,000 along with the Sentinels Cup trophy.
Since its inception, the Sentinels Cup has showcased the strong football culture of the North East and attracted enthusiastic participation from teams across the region. Organisers expect this year’s expanded format to bring more competitive and high-intensity matches.
The Assam Rifles said the tournament aims to motivate youth to stay away from drugs and insurgency while encouraging participation in sports. The force is also nurturing young footballers through its partnership with the Bhaichung Bhutia Football Academy and Assam Rifles Public School (Sports).
The event is supported under initiatives aligned with the Khelo India Abhiyan and Fit India Movement, promoting sports as a pathway to career opportunities and positive social change.
The 2026 edition is sponsored by NEEPCO, while Hill Myna Magazine is the official magazine partner.
Organisers have invited the public to attend and support the teams in what is expected to be a major footballing event in Shillong.
