Shillong, September 1 : In a joint operation, the Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya and Meghalaya Police have apprehended a Bangladeshi smuggler/tout near the international border in East Khasi Hills district.
The apprehended individual, identified as Mohd Mijan Mia (49 years), is a resident of Sunamganj district, Bangladesh. Acting on specific information, troops of 193 Bn BSF Meghalaya and local police apprehended Mia from the jungle area near the border.
During questioning, Mia admitted to facilitating the illegal entry of Bangladeshi nationals into India and engaging in smuggling activities. He has been handed over to Dangar Police Station for further investigation and legal proceedings.
