DDMA Trains Durga Puja Volunteers on Safety and Emergency Response in Shillong

Shillong, October 9: The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), East Khasi Hills District, conducted a training and capacity-building programme for volunteers and representatives of various Durga Puja Committees in Shillong ahead of the upcoming festivities.

The programme, held at the Meghalaya Bharat Scouts & Guides premises, was aimed at strengthening safety preparedness and ensuring coordinated emergency response during Durga Puja celebrations.

As part of the training, Traffic Police personnel briefed participants on traffic management and road safety measures to be followed during the festive period, when large gatherings are expected at different Puja venues.

Civil Defence personnel conducted sessions on disaster preparedness and emergency response, while Aapda Mitra volunteers demonstrated essential emergency response techniques and safety practices.

The training was intended to equip Puja Committee members and volunteers with practical skills to respond effectively in the event of emergencies and help ensure the smooth conduct of the celebrations.

According to the organisers, the participation of volunteers and representatives from various Puja Committees reflected a collective effort towards ensuring safe and incident-free Durga Puja celebrations in Shillong.

The DDMA said community participation, awareness and preparedness remain important components of public safety, particularly during festivals and other events involving large gatherings.
