Shillong, July 6: East Khasi Hills emerged as the overall champions of the 19th State Aquatic Championship (Swimming), while South West Khasi Hills finished as runners-up at the two-day championship held at the Crinoline Swimming Pool in Shillong from July 3 to 4.
Organised by the Meghalaya Swimming Association, the championship brought together 133 swimmers representing seven districts—East Jaintia Hills, East Khasi Hills, Eastern West Khasi Hills, South West Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills, East Garo Hills and West Garo Hills. Participants competed across Sub-Junior, Junior and Open categories.
A total of 104 events were conducted during the championship, showcasing young swimming talent from across the state.
Meiaipynsan Lyngdoh Tron was adjudged the Best Swimmer in the men’s category, while Verem Gedaliah Nongsiej received the Best Swimmer award in the women’s category. Keanan Chugim Nongrum Momin was named the Most Promising Boy Swimmer, and Anisa Rakshit Phanbuh was recognised as the Most Promising Girl Swimmer.
In a major achievement, Meiaipynsan Lyngdoh Tron also qualified in five events for the National Championship, marking a significant milestone for Meghalaya swimming.
