ELECTION COMMISSION GEARS UP FOR LOK SABHA ELECTIONS, EMPHASIZES FREE AND FAIR POLLS

THE TERM OF THE CURRENT LOWER HOUSE ENDS ON JUNE 16TH, 2024.

New Delhi, March 6 : The Election Commission of India (ECI) hosted a press conference yesterday, welcoming stakeholders and the public to participate in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, described as “the largest democratic festivities in the world.”

The ECI highlighted its commitment to transparent and inclusive elections, emphasizing the involvement of political parties throughout the process. The Commission assured that concerns raised by parties would be addressed to ensure free and fair polls.

Chief Election Commissioner Kumar outlined the ECI’s priorities:

  • Free and Fair: Ensuring a level playing field for all candidates and parties.
  • Transparent: Upholding transparency in all election-related processes.
  • Inclusive: Encouraging participation from all eligible voters.
  • Participative: Creating a conducive environment for active voter engagement.
  • Inducement-free: Eliminating the use of money and other inducements to influence voters.
  • Intimidation-free: Ensuring an environment free from fear and intimidation.

    The ECI held a review meeting with enforcement agencies, emphasizing a coordinated approach using technology to curb “money and muscle power” and ensure a peaceful and fair electoral process. Strict vigilance will be maintained on interstate and international borders.

    The ECI urged all eligible voters to actively participate in the elections and celebrate this democratic occasion.

    The ECI directed District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police to maintain absolute impartiality, ensure transparency, and provide equal access to all parties, guaranteeing a level playing field.

    The ECI declared its stance of zero tolerance for any form of violence during the election process, upholding the integrity of Indian democracy.
